WAR ROOM The Movie: Big ticket Sales
Faith based movies are a recognition that we need God. The WAR ROOM is the biggest box office draw this weekend. The low-budget family drama blockbuster nearly topped ticket sales, coming in 2nd to the number one ticket sales, Straight Out If Compton, but showed in just 1/3rd of the theaters:
WAR ROOM Sales Theaters
SALES: 11,351,389. THEATERS: 1,135
Straight Out Of Compton Sales Theaters
SALES: 13,133.560. THEATERS: 3,142
The film is a faith-based drama about an American couple whose marriage is in trouble until they discover the healing power of prayer.
Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick promoted the film by word-of-mouth– a grassroots marketing plan to show leaders the film and encourage them to spread the word. The strategy was successful, WAR ROOM with a budget of 3M, raked in 4-times that amount in the opening weekend. The filmmakers believe that it is a message that people need to hear.
Though scratching reviews, Hollywood can no longer ignore the niche market for faith-based films.
